After serving as county administrative officer since April 2024, D’Andrea Walker is now acting County Executive effective Jan. 3. Walker assumed the role as the county’s top official following Congressman-elect Johnny Olszewski, Jr.’s resignation from the post. Walker will remain in the position until the County Council selects a County Executive to fulfill the remaining two years of Olszewski’s term.
“Our highest priority is to continue delivering the world-class services—public safety, code enforcement, government resources and more—that our communities rely on,” said Walker. She is the first woman and African American to serve as interim executive.
Prior to her April 2024 appointment overseeing the county’s day-to-day operations as County Administrative Officer, Walker headed the Department of Public Works and Transportation for four years. She has also served in leadership roles for Prince George’s County government and state government in the Maryland Transit Administration, Department of General Services and Motor Vehicle Administration.
The Baltimore County Council held public interviews for five candidates for the County Executive position on Dec.16. It intends to make a final determination at its Jan. 6 legislative session.
Following the appointment of the County Executive, Walker will return to her role as county administrative officer.
