Northwest Voice is re-publishing an article, Lasting Love Story: Berdetta and George White, which originally ran in February 2019 about one of the community’s most endearing couples, Pikesville residents Berdetta and George White. The Whites celebrated their 20th year anniversary last August, and are still going strong.
On Valentine’s Day 2024, which is also Ash Wednesday, the couple will participate in Bible Study at Lochearn Presbyterian Church in the morning and in the afternoon will greet motorists seeking to receive ashes and will share a prayer for those who request it.
That evening, the Whites will enjoy a home-cooked surf and turf dinner in their Pikesville apartment paired with their favorite wine, Stella Rosa green apple. As usual, Bert says, “George is cooking.” She adds with a chuckle, “But I’ll have some special surprises.”
They’ll also set the mood listening to selections from a Love Story Through Songs, a 20-page book written by Bert and illustrated with George’s photos. The book, which features 114 songs reminiscent of their courtship, was a gift given to couples who participated in their Aug. 9, 2003, wedding, and those who requested a copy.
After more than 20 years of marriage, she says, “We’re still on our honeymoon.”
Both give credit to their longevity to their faith and ministry, which remain front and center in their lives. Both are elders at Lochearn Presbyterian Church and have delivered the message when asked by the pastor, John Brewington. On Feb. 23, of this year, George will deliver the invocation prayer before the Maryland Senate in Annapolis, as the request of Sen. Shelly Hettleman of District 11.
Still active in the community, George is vice chair of the Baltimore County Commission on Veterans Affairs and a member of the Maryland Defense Force. He co-hosts a radio show, continues to make his rounds taking pictures, and offers mobile notary services. Both he and Bert are members of the Woodlawn Senior Center.
Happy Valentine’s Day to all! Read the original story here.
