With Liberty Road sandwiched in between the Reisterstown Road and Baltimore National Pike, it’s always been a challenge to increase the foot traffic to the well traveled but less commercial corridor.
Taking a cue from various organizations that present local concert series, the Liberty Road Business Association hosted its first outdoor concert series, Liberty Live! at Kings Point Shopping Center in Randallstown. Executive Director Kelly Carter said the community responded “overwhelmingly positive” to the group’s first family-friendly concert series, with as many as 500 people attending each of the four Friday nights.
Couples, friends and families brought with them folding chairs, sunglasses and hats, as well as positive attitudes for a fun evening of great music and community spirit. Attendees swayed, bopped and sang along to the cool jazz, jumped in a few line dances and visited the vendor booths, while children bounced in the inflated castle.
Funded by a commercial revitalization grant from the county, the series launched in June with an old school Father’s Day performance, and continued biweekly with three other concerts. The series was so successful, said Carter, that the LRBA will hold an encore concert on Friday, Sept. 5, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The business association also plans to host the event again in 2015.
In previous years, the 102-member association organized a movie night, but it did not attract the wide support that the business association desired. So the group went back to the drawing board, opting for a concert series. Carter praised the shopping center for its support, particularly Food Lion. Its parking lot accommodated much of the event’s setup.
