As the Nov. 25 application deadline approaches, Baltimore County Public Schools reminds students and their parents to explore what various magnet programs have to offer by contacting the schools or attending showcase events.
Staff from the Office of Magnet Programs will be available at the showcase events to answer questions about the magnet application process. Those interested in magnet programs at schools that did not hold showcases or whose showcases have already been held are encouraged to contact the school for information.
All applications must be in the Office of Magnet Programs by 4:30 p.m. on November 25, 2014, or postmarked on or before that date. Upcoming showcases will be held at:
- Deer Park Middle Magnet, which has a focus on earth/space, science, fine arts, mass communications and Spanish, on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 6 p.m. at 9830 Winands Rd. in Randallstown. For more information, contact Delores Tedeschi-Butler at 410-887-0726.
- Sudbrook Magnet Middle School, which has a focus on environmental and earth/space science, performing arts, visual arts and world languages, will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, at 5 p.m. at 4300 Bedford Rd. in Pikesville. Contact Gordon Webb at 410-887-6720 for more information.
At the elementary level, all applicants who meet the Maryland age-of-entry requirements and are eligible to attend a Baltimore County elementary school are offered placement or placed on a wait list through a centralized lottery process.
Parents whose children will turn 5 between Sept. 2, 2015, and Oct. 14, 2015, and who wish to have their children considered for a kindergarten magnet program, must request early admission to kindergarten testing at their zoned school and submit a copy of the request with their magnet application by the Nov. 25, 2014, deadline.
