The Baltimore County-owned indoor pools in Randallstown and Dundalk will reopen in October and offer open swim, discounted monthly memberships and daily admission during an initial pilot period. The pilot period will run through at least the end of 2026 as Recreation and Parks develops additional programming, including water fitness classes.

County Executive Kathy Klausmeier and the Department of Recreation and Parks announced the updates in an Oct. 1 press release. Before the pools open, community members can literally test the waters at an open house. Attendees can swim, sign up for memberships and learn about the aquatics pilot program.

The Randallstown pool, located at the Randallstown Community Center, will host an open house on Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. before reopening Monday, Oct. 19. The Dundalk pool will host an open house on Saturday, October 10, before reopening Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Both facilities feature 25-yard, six-lane indoor pools with depths ranging from four to 10 feet, along with men’s, women’s and family changing facilities. Residents may purchase monthly memberships or pay for daily admission. One monthly membership provides access to both pools.

The reopening follows an online survey launched in late July that received approximately 800 responses, as well as two public listening sessions held in August. Officials say residents identified affordability as a primary consideration, with fitness classes and open lap swimming among the most requested activities.

“We heard clearly from residents that they want these pools open, affordable and available to their communities,” Klausmeier said in a statement. “We’ll keep listening as we build on these services and develop additional programming.”

Councilman Julian Jones, in whose district the Randallstown pool is located, stated, “Baltimore County residents of all ages deserve amenities that contribute to enhancing their health and quality of life.”

Bryan Sheppard, acting director of the Department of Recreation and Parks Acting Director, said he looks forward to reopen the pools. “We’re excited to work with the Dundalk and Randallstown communities to reopen these pools and develop aquatics programming that meets residents’ needs,” he said.

The swim center opened at the Randallstown Community Center in 2009 under the operation of the Y of Central Maryland. Y management notified county officials in April that it would not renew its lease to operate the county-owned pools in Randallstown nor Dundalk pools. Baltimore County Recreation and Parks assumed management of the pools effective Aug. 31.
