Baltimore County police detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a double homicide that took place July 7 in a quiet Gwynn Oak neighborhood,
Police have since identified the victims as 9-year-old Steve Allen and his sister 15-year-old Giovanna Myrie, who attended Western High School in Baltimore City.
The tragic events unfolded after officers responded to a home in the 6100 block of Talles Road at approximately 7:20 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Once on the scene, officers located two victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead and transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. Police say the parents found the shocking scene when they arrived home.
At a press conference that evening in the community not far off Liberty Road, Police Chief Robert McCullough called the incident “horrific and tragic.” He said, “I’ve worked here for a long time. The worse things we get are speeding complaints, noise complaints, neighbor. Never have I see something like this before in this neighborhood.”
