Baltimore County Police Officer P. Catalfamo was discharged on Aug. 19 from the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute in Woodlawn after more than two months of treatment and rehabilitation following injuries he sustained after being shot in the line of duty. Upon his release Catalfamo was surrounded by members of his care team and family members, as well as Chief Robert McCullough and officers from Pikesville Precinct 4, where he was assigned when he was shot.
It was the morning of June 7 when officers responded to an indecent exposure call involving a suspicious person on the Milford Mill Gwynn Falls Trail in Pikesville that set the lifechanging circumstances in motion. The individual shot at the officers and after an exchange of fire, Catalfamo was struck. Both Catalfamo and the subject were transported to Shock Trauma. A bystander, who was also injured, was taken to a local hospital.
Catalfamo was discharged from the Shock Trauma Center 10 days after the incident and transferred to the rehab facility, where his treatment and rehabilitation continued. His recovery was described as miraculous. In a press release, police officials asked that the family’s privacy be respected.
