The Baltimore City Police Department (BPD) has identified a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of Jada Sellers, a 17-year-old student-athlete at Milford Mill Academy, who died Aug. 12 from injuries she sustained in West Baltimore nearly two weeks earlier.

At the time of the shooting, BPD released few details about the investigation. However, on Aug. 20, the department announced on its Facebook page that detectives are seeking the arrest of 18-year-old Christian Hursey, who reportedly was Sellers’ ex-boyfriend.
BPD is unsure of Hursey’s whereabouts and is asking the public for help locating him. The department warns people not to approach or attempt to apprehend the suspect because he is considered armed and dangerous.
During a televised press conference Aug. 20, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley described Hursey as one of Baltimore’s “Most Wanted” and advised that anyone who assists or harbors him could also face arrest when he is taken into custody.
Metro Crime Stoppers is offering an $8,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for Sellers’ death. Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP. Tips may be submitted anonymously. The U.S. Marshals Service is offering an additional $3,500 reward and can be reached at 202-819-5058.
The tragedy unfolded shortly after midnight on July 31, when officers responded to reports of gunshots in the 700 block of Lyndhurst Road. Officers found Sellers critically wounded outside a home. She was transported to an area hospital, where she died 12 days later.
On social media, the family expressed appreciation for those who supported them during Sellers’ hospitalization and after her passing. They described Sellers as a vibrant young woman who loved cheer and dancing. A rising senior, she served as vice president of Milford Mill Academy’s Student Government Association and was a member of the National Honor Society.
