UniverSoul Circus will kick off a three-weekend run with a high-energy parade and traditional tent raising on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Security Square Mall in Windsor Mill. The event, which runs from 6-8 p.m., is free and open to the public.
Baltimore native and UniverSoul Circus founder Cedric Walker will arrive on a double-decker bus with his internationally acclaimed cast of performers. The welcoming parade will feature community leaders, a marching band, singers and a DJ, drill teams and dancers, along with the circus’ signature stilt walkers and clowns.
The pep-rally-style celebration will also include remarks from local dignitaries and performances by Baltimore-area groups – plus meet-and-greets with UniverSoul performers. Immediately following the parade, crews will raise the circus’ iconic purple-and-yellow big top tent, which is fully air-conditioned and takes about two hours to complete.
The circus, with its new Rhythm of the World production, runs from Thursday, Aug. 14, through Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 1) under the big top tent at Security Square Mall, 6901 Security Blvd., 21244.
The acts feature aerialists, fire breathers, stilt dancers and cool clowns. Also returning are the audience favorite Caribbean Street Carnival, which features 20-foot dancing puppets, fire-breathing stilt dancers and vibrant folklore characters.
