A promising 17-year-old student at Milford Mill Academy has died from injuries she suffered in a shooting in Baltimore City.
The family of Jada Sellers announced the scholar-athlete’s death on Instagram on Aug. 14. The post thanked everyone who supported Sellers and her family with prayers and said details about a celebration of life would be shared.
Family members described Sellers as a vibrant young woman who loved to dance. She served as vice president of Milford Mill Academy’s Student Government Association and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was set to become a high school senior in the fall.
Milford Mill Athletics honored Sellers on Facebook with a photo of classmates lifting her onto their shoulders, accompanied by the words “Fly High Jada!” and a broken red heart.
On Instagram, Georgia Peach restaurant posted a series of fun videos showing a smiling Sellers and a coworker dancing to choreographed moves. In the comments, customers noted how pretty, friendly and professional Sellers was when taking their soul food orders.
Baltimore City Police have released few details about the shooting, which occurred shortly after midnight on July 31. Officers responded to reports of gunshots in the 700 block of Lyndhurst Road in West Baltimore and found Sellers critically wounded. She was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and died 12 days later.
The suspect remains at large. Metro Crime Stoppers is offering an $8,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for Sellers’ death. Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
